IIS Judoka Thangjam Tababi Devi won a historic silver for India on the first day of competitions at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires on Sunday.
Tababi was among the first batch of athletes at IIS and has been in brilliant form over the past year having won the Asian Cadet Championship among a host of medals at the national and regional level. The medal also marked India’s first ever medal at an Olympic Games in the sport of judo.
Tababi started with a win over Yangchen Wangmo of Bhutan before seeing off tough competition from the 2018 European Cadet Champion Ezzra Muminoviq of Kosovo in the quarterfinal and European Junior runner-up Ana Viktorija Puljiz of Croatia in the semis.
The entire IIS team is proud of Tababi’s efforts and we are confident that this result will spur our athletes towards many more international victories for the nation.
