Manisha Moun impresses on World Championships debut

Young IIS boxer Manisha Moun put on impressive display in the ongoing AIBA Women’s World Championships in New Delhi, beating more experienced opponents in her first two bouts by unanimous decisions and setting up a quarter-final clash against top seed Stoyka Petrova of Bulgaria on Tuesday.

The 20-year old was one of the first two recruits inducted into the IIS Boxing Program by Head Coach Ron Simms and has been honing her fitness and boxing skills over the past year at IIS before moving to the national camp in her first year as a senior. Making her debut at the prestigious World Championships, Manisha was unfazed by an extremely tough draw which saw her pitted against twice Worlds bronze medallist Christina Cruz of the United States in the first round and reigning World Champion Dina Zholaman of Kazakshtan in the pre-quarterfinals.

Already a firm fan favourite with her fearless boxing and strong technical abilities, Manisha is now one win away from being assured of a memorable World Championship medal and is confident of another impressive show against the top seed and reigning World Silver medallist in the quarterfinals.
