Recognising the efforts of the JSW Group in promoting sports in India, the Government has awarded JSW Sports the 2018 Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar in the category ‘Encouragement to Sports through Corporate Social Responsibility’. The award was officially conferred to Parth Jindal, Founder and Director of the Inspire Institute of Sport, by the Honourable President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind during the National Sports Awards ceremony on Tuesday evening.
Neeraj Chopra and Satish Kumar awarded Arjuna Awards
Additionally, star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and Satish Kumar were among those awarded Arjuna Awards for outstanding achievements in sports. After becoming Junior World Champion in 2016, Neeraj has been steadily improving and had a breakout senior season in 2018, winning both Commonwealth and Asian Games Golds and breaking his own National Record twice. Super Heavyweight boxer Satish has had consistent performances in the ring and added to his 2014 Asian Games bronze medal with a silver at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast this April.
Senior IIS Judo Coach Jiwan Sharma conferred Dronacharya Award
To add to IIS’ success during the ceremony, Senior Judo Coach Jiwan Kumar Sharma was recognised for his lifetime contribution to coaching by being awarded the prestigious Dronacharya Award. Jiwan, who has been an institution in Indian judo, has dedicated over 3 decades to coaching and supporting talented Indian judokas and we are honoured to have him part of the IIS judo program to guide our junior athletes.
